Every Story Needs a Sequel
Welcome to Islands of Adventure, where your feet will ache, your heart will race, and your camera roll will burst at the seams. If theme parks were action movies, this one could be the summer blockbuster. Whether you’re here for wizarding worlds, dinosaurs with a bit of a temper, or a certain green guy who’s a fan of smashing, you have come to the right place.
This is your launchpad to everything you actually need to know, no fluff, no filler, just tips, tricks, and tales from someone who’s done this loop more times than Doctor Doom’s dropped people from a tower.
What Is Islands of Adventure?
Universal’s Islands of Adventure is split into eight (yes eight) uniquely themed “islands”. You’ve got:
- Port Of Entry
- Seuss Landing
- The Lost Continent
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade
- Jurassic Park
- Skull Island
- Toon Lagoon
- Marvel Super Hero Island
All within a brisk walk (or a dramatic run if VelociCoaster just reopened after downtime). This isn’t just a park, it’s a full day, thrill packed, snack fuelled mission.
Port of Entry, Where the Adventure Actually Begins

The place where your day of adventure kicks off, your legs are still fresh, your patience hasn’t been tested by a VelociCoaster queue, and the smell of Cinnabon is strong enough to tempt even the strongest willpower.
This is Islands of Adventure’s version of a warm hug. It’s beautifully themed, packed with details, and yes, you’ll want to stop for photos, snacks, or both before you even reach the first Island.
While there are no attractions here, this area sets the tone perfectly with its adventurous bazaar-style vibes and immersive soundtrack. You’re not quite sure where you are, but it definitely feels like somewhere exciting.
What You’ll Find Here:
- Shops galore: From sweets to souvenirs, this is your one-stop adventure shop. If you’re hunting for that perfect park hoodie or Christmas ornament in the middle of July (because… tradition), this is your spot.
- Food fuel: Whether you’re a Starbucks loyalist or fancy something a little different at Croissant Moon Bakery, there’s something tasty to grab before you hit the thrill zones.
- Confisco Grille & Backwater Bar: Great for a slower-paced, sit-down bite with some actually decent theme park food.
Top tip: Pop back here at night for some gorgeous lagoon views and a last look at the park lights reflecting off the water
Seuss Landing, Whimsy, Wonder, and Green Eggs

Welcome to Seuss Landing, where the paths bend, the palm trees tilt, and straight lines haven’t been invited. This land is a love letter to the wild and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, it’s a pastel playground where logic takes a back seat and imagination controls the show.
It’s perfect for families, younger adventurers, or anyone who appreciates the soothing power of a softly spoken rhyme and a bit of organised chaos.
Here, you’re not just walking through a storybook, you are part of it. And it smells faintly of tater tots and sugar filled delights, which honestly just enhances the experience.

What You’ll Find Here:
- Caro-Seuss-el: A Seussian spin on the classic carousel. The creatures move, blink, and squawk.
- The Cat in the Hat: Hop on a couch and journey through the classic tale, with Thing 1 and Thing 2 doing what they do best: creating indoor havoc with zero regrets.
- One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish: It’s a gentle ride with a not so dry surprise.
- Tip: pay attention to the song or get a splashy reminder of who’s really in charge.
- The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride!: (Try saying that three times fast) Possibly the most relaxing ride in the park, with the best views.

Snack Like a Seuss Star
Let’s talk Pizza Tots at Green Eggs and Ham Café. Honestly, if they sold these in bulk, I’d bring a suitcase. They’re crispy, cheesy, pepperoni-packed bites of joy and happiness and the perfect fuel before (or after) a spin on the Cat’s couch. Sam-I-Am, I do, I do, so love Pizza tots.
There’s also Circus McGurkus Café Stoo-pendous, where the ceiling is spinning with flying trapeze and the menu is filled with circus-themed comfort food. It’s part restaurant, part spectacle, and fully air-conditioned, three wins in my book.
Seussical Extras:
- Character Zone: Meet the Cat, the Grinch, Thing 1, Thing 2, and more. Don’t be surprised if your little ones suddenly grow a love of green eggs and rhyming.
- Shops: Grab books, hats, cuddly Seuss friends, or candy from the colourful collection of themed stores. “Cats, Hats & Things” might be the only shop in existence where that sentence makes total sense.
- Grinchmas Wholiday Spectacular: If you’re visiting during the holidays, this seasonal show is a must-see. It retells How the Grinch Stole Christmas with music, heart, and the best Whos in Whoville. A real treat and worth a trip during the holiday season.

A Touch of Magic
I am the Lorax and I speak for these, palm trees. The Palm trees here aren’t just whimsical, they’re real survivors, bent naturally by Hurricane Andrew and repurposed into living pieces of theming. It’s a subtle nod to resilience, hidden among the silliness.
The Lost Continent
Legends, Lunch, and Laughing Fountains between Seussian shenanigans and a snow covered Hogsmeade is a land that whispers of ancient gods, golden cities, and treasures lost to time (and theme park re-theming). Welcome to The Lost Continent.
This area might not have roller coasters or any dragons (at least not anymore), but it does have something far rarer in a theme park, peace and personality. It’s a beautiful place to slow down, especially if you’ve got a belly ready for better then your average theme park meal.
Eat Like a Demi-God
If you’re doing Universal properly (i.e. on foot, in the sun, carrying bags of merch and kids who insists they’re “not tired”), you’re going to want to eat. And when that moment comes? Mythos.
This place isn’t just a theme park restaurant, it’s a multi-time award winner for best in-park dining anywhere. Inside, it’s all flowing waterfalls, towering rock columns, and mysterious ancient architecture. On your plate? Mediterranean-inspired dishes, burgers that have their own fan base, and surprisingly posh desserts for a place with costumed wizards next door.
Seriously, if Zeus opened a gastropub, Mythos would be it.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade
Islands of Adventure has always been about jumping into the middle of the action. But in 2010, Universal didn’t just raise the bar with immersion, they picked it up, waved a wand, and shouted “Alohomora!” when they opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade.
Step through the snowy rooftops of Hogsmeade and you’ll find yourself smack dab in the middle of one of the most detailed, and beloved lands. Shops from the stories, food from the films, and rides that make you question whether you’re brave enough for Gryffindor or better off hiding behind a potted Mandrake.

What You’ll Find Here:
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: Set inside the iconic Hogwarts (yes, the actual castle!), this ride takes you soaring over the school grounds, through a Quidditch match, and face-to-face with Dementors. Best Hogwarts field trip ever.
- Flight of the Hippogriff: A family friendly coaster that gives you a lesson in Hippogriff etiquette before whisking you off through the Forbidden Forest. Bonus points if you bow back.
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure: This one’s a true beast of a ride. Half coaster, half dark ride, and fully amazing. Multiple launches, sudden drops, backward sections, and yes, you do get to ride Hagrid’s iconic flying motorbike.
- Hogwarts Express (Park-to-Park ticket required): Board at Hogsmeade Station and head to Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida.

Eats, Exploding Sweets and Live Entertainment
No trip to Hogsmeade is complete without indulging in the enchanting food and spellbinding entertainment that makes The Wizarding World of Harry Potter feel so real. From hearty meals to snacks that could’ve leapt right off Honeydukes’ shelves, there’s no shortage of magical bites.
- Three Broomsticks: Rustic, charming, and full of hearty British fare.
- Hog’s Head: Attached to the Three Broomsticks, this cosy pub is the best spot to grab a cold (or hot, or frozen) Butterbeer, or try a Firewhisky if you’re feeling brave and over 21.
- Honeydukes: Sugary chaos in the best way. Stock up on Chocolate Frogs, Exploding Bonbons, and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.
- The Frog Choir: Hogwarts students and their harmonising amphibians perform magical tunes. Think Glee, but with robes and toads.
- Triwizard Spirit Rally: Dueling schools show off their unique styles in a dazzling bit of wand-free flair. Durmstrang brings the drama, Beauxbatons brings the ballet and we bring the applause.

Jurassic Park
Thrills, Chills, and Raptor Regret, this land is wild walking through the lush foliage and echoing dino roars, Universal dares to ask: What if we actually built the park John Hammond dreamed of? And then they doubled down and asked: What if it all went terribly, fantastically wrong… for your entertainment?
This island is the stomping ground of legends. You’re walking through the gates of a fully functioning dinosaur theme park (you know, the one that definitely, absolutely always ends well). And just like in the films, it’s got everything from family-friendly encounters to heart-pounding “why-did-I-do-this-to-myself?” coasters.

What You’ll Find Here:
- VelociCoaster: This steel beast is what happens when you combine 70mph speeds, inversions over water, and the ever-charming threat of velociraptors on your tail. It’s sleek, it’s savage, and it might just be the best coaster I have ever been on.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure: This was the original “dino gotcha” ride. A gentle boat tour turns into a full-blown aquatic ambush, complete with an over 80-foot plunge that’ll leave your socks soaked.
- Pteranodon Flyers: A sky-high, gentle glider where kids (and one lucky adult per child) get a bird’s eye view of Camp Jurassic. Perfect for those not ready to be eaten by a raptor just yet.
- Camp Jurassic: Ropes, slides, caves, and dino noises around every corner. This interactive playground is where young explorers burn off their excess energy.
- Raptor Encounter: Here’s where things went a bit sideways for me. Back in 2006, I emotionally scarred the older kids with a friendly little Jaws boat ride. I apparently missed the Universal Parenting Memo that reads: “Don’t double down on your trauma legacy.” Fast forward to 2022: my dinosaur obsessed daughter who prefers pink, purple, and preferably plush species. Got a close-up with Blue the Raptor. Spoiler alert: Blue thought she looked like lunch. Cue the crying, and the kind of life-long memory she definitely reminds me of at every opportunity.

Fuel Up (Before You Become the Fuel)
There’s no shortage of food options here. From burgers and pizza to something a bit more “prehistorically posh” for adults over at The Watering Hole, where you can sip on tropical brews exclusive to Jurassic Park. It’s the perfect place to recover your nerves, or mask your guilt, with a refreshingly Isla Nublar beer.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong
The newest land in the park, Skull Island roared to life in 2016 with Reign of Kong, a dark, immersive ride that brings guests face to face with the big guy himself. It’s thrilling, intense, and loaded with creatures that make you grateful Kong’s on your side.
I still miss the old Kongfrontation, especially that legendary banana breath. It could knock out a Minion at twenty paces.

Toon Lagoon
After serving Jurassic Park, discovering Kong it’s time to drift into Toon Lagoon, where classic comic strips meet watery mayhem. This land is a nostalgic nod to the funny pages, filled with beloved characters like Popeye, Bluto, Dudley Do-Right, and Betty Boop, and trust me, they don’t skimp on the splash.
What You’ll Find Here, Two of the wettest rides in Orlando:
- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: Is a wild flume ride with drops, laughs, and more soaking than you planned.
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges: This watery attraction practically guarantees a full-body baptism by theme park.

And once you’ve drip-dried enough to eat without creating a puddle under your tray, you’ve got food options galore. Blondie’s serves up hero-sized sandwiches, Wimpy’s is flipping burgers (yes, he’d “gladly pay you Tuesday”), and Comic Strip Café dishes out a variety of eats from around the globe.
Toon Lagoon’s comic book speech bubbles and over-the-top signage make it one of the most visually fun areas to explore, even if your shoes are squelching the whole way through.
Marvel Super Hero Island
Thrills, Heroes, and a Little Bit of Comic Book Chaos, Marvel Super Hero Island is here to SMASH! expectations (and possibly your voice, if you scream your way through The Hulk Coaster).
This neon drenched corner of Islands of Adventure is every comic book lover’s dream splashed in cel-shaded colour, over the top architecture, and a soundtrack that makes you feel like you’ve leapt into a 90s early morning classic Marvel cartoon. It’s bold. It’s intense. It’s unapologetically 90s nostalgic Marvel, and I personally, wouldn’t have it any other way.
And no, this isn’t the MCU version of your favourite heroes (thats a whole different story), so don’t expect Tony Stark’s smirking Robert Downey Jr. vibes here. This is full-on comic book energy: bright, brash, and brilliant.

What You’ll Find Here:
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster: This isn’t your average thrill ride. It’s a full-throttle launch coaster that sends you from zero to green-rage in seconds. Screaming therapy, Marvel-style.
- The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man: My personal favourite and an absolute must-do. It’s part dark ride, part simulator, part “how is this still so good after all these years?” fun. (Also, Spider-Man is my guy. Always has been.)
- Storm Force Accelatron: Think teacups… but with lightning and X-Men. A good one for younger thrill-seekers or for spinning yourself silly while harnessing those mutant powers.
- Doctor Doom’s Fearfall: A quick jolt to the sky followed by a rapid drop as Doom tries to suck your fear out like it’s candy floss. Fun? Yes. Terrifying? Also yes.

Superpowered Dining:
Captain America Diner is home to one of the few character dining experiences at Universal parks. Want to grab a burger with Cap himself? You can, though personally, I’m still waiting for them to let Wolverine run the grill. You just

A Core Memory:
One of my favourite moments, possibly of all our trips, was when my daughter met Spider-Man for the first time. She was star-struck (and I was in awe). Totally speechless (a rarity, trust me). He leaned down, whispered something, and she gasped like he’d told her the secrets of the universe. Later, I asked what he’d said. She just smirked and said, “I can’t tell you. It’s classified.” To this day, she’s kept Spider-Man’s secret. That’s loyalty.
