Finally as the day draws ever closer to possibly the most anticipated new theme park in years, we wanted to take a quick look at each of the new worlds that will be ours to explore come May 22nd 2025.
Epic Universe, will be Universal Studios third full fledge theme park in Florida. This park will be bringing us brand new worlds, promising to be full of thrills, and one of its most highly anticipated (the one I look forward to most) is Dark Universe. This horror-themed area promises to immerse guests in the eerie, monster-filled world of classic Universal horror icons. If you’ve ever wanted to wander through a fog-drenched village, come face-to-face with legendary creatures, or experience a horror attraction that sends chills down your spine (in the best way possible), then this is the place for you!
Unlike the whimsical lands of Super Nintendo World or the vibes of Celestial Park, Dark Universe will embrace its horror roots. We are hoping for foggy pathways, haunted mansions, and an immersive experience that might just make you second-guess walking through alone at night.
A Land Where Monsters Reign
While Universal has long celebrated its iconic Monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man), taking us backstage with the Horror Makeup Show, The Mummy Ride and the now dearly departed (and beloved) Beetlejuice Graveyard Review, Dark Universe will be the first theme park land dedicated entirely to these legends of the movie screen.
The setting, as you step into the shadows and prepare to face the legends of horror. Universal’s Dark Universe is set to bring its classic monsters to life in a way you’ve never seen before. As part of Universal’s highly anticipated Epic Universe, this eerie land will immerse it’s guests in a world filled with classic creatures, spine-tingling attractions, and cinematic storytelling. If you’ve ever wanted to walk through a village haunted by Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man, and The Mummy, your nightmares (or, dreams) are about to come true.
A Village of Fear
The beating heart of Dark Universe is Darkmoor, a fog covered, gothic style village where the villagers must live in constant terror of the monsters lurking in the shadows. This land looks to be a love letter to Universal’s classic horror franchises, mixing gothic architecture, twisted trees, and eerie lantern lit streets to create an immersive experience truly unlike anything else at Universal Orlando.
From images seen online the moment you step through the crumbling stone gates, the feeling of history and horror dripping every where. The towering silhouette of the Frankenstein’s Manor dominates the sky, all while howls echo from the dark woods. As thunder crackles in the distance a flash of lightning briefly lights the eerie landscape, are there still twisted experiments taking place inside the manor?
The Head Monsters Unchained
The standout attraction coming to this land Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, this is will be a dark ride (for obvious reasons), blending some of the most impressive and cutting edge animatronics seen to date. As the name suggests this ride will be centred around Frankenstein’s Monster with other infamous Monsters also making an appearance, with a story that would feel right at home in a Halloween Horror Night house.
Universal is known for its immersive theme experiences (like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter), so we are not surprised how this land is starting to take shape. We also are hoping and wouldn’t be surprised if this land includes some hair-raising elements weaved through the village.
Could we see a showdown between Frankenstein’s Monster and his creator? We’ll have to wait and see, but one thing’s for sure: Universal knows how to blend storytelling and thrills like no other.
More Haunting Attractions and Experiences
Dark Universe is expected to have multiple experiences that will make fans of the classic monsters giddy (or petrified). Some speculation includes:
- Horrifying Meet and Greet Experience, stand toe to toe with these classic monsters in the village of Darkmoor, including Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride, the Invisible man (who presumably will always be wondering around), will Dracula make a appearance after the sun sets? This is sure going to delight fans and terrify children.
- Two new attractions, The above mentioned Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Plus a new rollercoaster Curse of the Werewolf where you must escape through the dark woods as a pack of werewolves are on your heels
- Unique Experience, Universal’s answer to Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidy Boo, with Dr Pretorius’ Lab said to offer guests the chance to have there very own monster makeover with face paint and temporary tattoos.
Dining and Merchandise: Spooky Snacks and Sinister Souvenirs
What is a Universal land without unique food and drink options Dark Universe is no exception. With 3 themed quick service locations
- Das Stakehaus, serving up stakes that will keep Dracula away.
- De Lacey’s Cottage serves as a unique dining location offers a menu filled with hearty, old-world dishes, warming stews, and fresh-baked bread.
- The Burning Blade Tavern straight from the film reel of Frankenstein, hoping this will be offering eerie cocktails, and horror inspired treats.
There are no official new announcements yet, on the park specific merchandise, but some annulment merchandise is available online and at some stores within the other parks. But if merchandise tells us anything, there’s bound to be killer merch.
What You Need to Know Before Entering Dark Universe
- Opening Date: Epic Universe is set to open May 22nd 2025, and Dark Universe will be one of its core lands. Rides are undergoing the stress tests already.
- Ride Requirements: Official height requirements have been announced, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, minimum 40 inches, Curse of the Werewolf, minimum 40 inches.
So small that it'll sit almost unnoticed in any pocket or bag. Its cylindrical design offers a remarkable capacity-to-size ratio.
