Welcome to Berk
With its opening on May 22nd 2025, visiting Epic Universe in 2025 is going to be an unforgettable experience, and one of the most original areas is the How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk. As a fan of both Universal and the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, I am excited to see this world be brought to life. Our daughter, a huge Toothless and Stormfly fan, is already looking forward to meeting the Night Fury himself at his meet and greet.
With Universal pouring so much detail into its latest theme park expansion, Isle of Berk promises to be an immersive, vibrant world where Vikings and dragons coexist. We know we are getting several new attractions, a live stage show complete with Dragons, a Viking training camp for the junior vikings among us, and a close up encounter with Hiccup and Toothless. This new bright and colourful land is shaping up to be as if a DreamWorks movie has jumped off the page, and today, we’re diving into everything we know about it so far.
the Isle of Berk
Are you the person that says ‘I wish I could live there’ every time you watch How To Train Your Dragon, if so, then Universal is making your dream come to life, now you can be immersed in this new land.
As you walk through a massive stone gateway, you are transported suddenly, to Berk. The smell of the sea (or, more likely, the faint aroma of theme park popcorn) fills the air. The towering Viking village looms ahead, complete with wooden buildings, carved dragon statues, and massive ships anchored nearby. You can almost hear Stoick the Vast giving a rousing speech about Viking honour and dragon training.
From the look of it Universal has spared no expense (oops thats a different franchise about Giant Creatures) in creating a fully immersive world. From the concept art and aerial construction photos, it’s clear that guests will truly feel transported to the animated world brought to life in the How to Train Your Dragon films. We can be sure to see massive set pieces, moving animatronic dragons, and interactive experiences that will make you feel like you’ve stepped right into the movie.
Attractions, Soaring, Splashing, and Skål-ing Like a Viking
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
This family coaster will be one of the biggest highlights of the land, giving riders the chance to soar over and through the Isle of Berk like a real dragon rider. This coaster will give the sensation of flying, weaving through the landscape, with thrilling (but not too intense) twists and turns. If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it feels like to ride on the back of a dragon, this is your chance. Minimum height 40 inches.
Dragon Racer’s Rally
If you’ve ever watched How to Train Your Dragon and thought, “I’d be a fantastic dragon rider,” then this is the attraction for you. Dragon Racer Rally is set to be a spinning, interactive flat ride where guests will get to tilt and dive as if they were in the middle of an intense race. Minimum height 48 inches.
Fyre Drill
If you love water rides (or just enjoy the idea of drenching your friends and family), Fyre Drill will be right up your alley. This interactive boat attraction is a Viking-style splash battle, where riders will work together to put out flames while navigating turbulent waters. Expect plenty of friendly competition and the potential for getting absolutely soaked, so maybe save this one for a hot Florida afternoon. Minimum height none.
Vikings Training Camp
For young viking trainees (or adults who just need a break from the queues), the How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk will feature am interactive play area, inspired by the dragon training grounds from the films. Climbing structures, slides, and possibly a few dragons keeping watch over the area. This is perfect for families who want to let their little ones burn off some energy while taking in all the details of Berk. Minimum height none.

Feast Like a Viking
No Viking experience is complete without a feast, and Isle of Berk will be home to several themed dining locations.
Mead Hall
The heart of any Viking village is the mead hall, and here, guests can gather for a feast fit for a chief. Mead Hall will serve up hearty platters of meat, fish, sandwiches, and more perfect for fuelling up before your next dragon flight. For those looking to quench their thirst, the hall will offer a selection of beer and cider, along with Coca-Cola Freestyle machines (because even Vikings deserve unlimited refills). The atmosphere? Think long communal tables, flickering lanterns, and the distant sounds of rowdy Vikings celebrating their latest victories.
Spitfire Grill
For a slightly lighter (but still Viking-worthy) option, Spitfire Grill will serve up flame-cooked greens, vegetables, and rice dishes topped with sizzling meats. Rumour has it these meals will be cooked over dragon fire—though hopefully, Toothless keeps his plasma blasts in check. This spot is perfect for those wanting a well-balanced meal without skimping on flavour (or the occasional charred edge).
Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel
Located near the Viking Training Camp play area, this quick-service spot will be a go-to for grab-and-go comfort food. Expect mac ‘n’ cheese cones, jacket potatoes loaded with toppings, and maybe even a few surprise Viking delicacies. Plus, what’s a trip to Berk without a souvenir tankard? Guests might just find collectible drinking vessels to fill with their favourite grog or, more likely, soda.
With these dining options, every guest will be able to eat like a Viking, whether they’re feasting in the Mead Hall or grabbing a quick bite before their next adventure. Now the real question is, are you ready to eat like a Hooligan or a Chief?
Given Universal’s recent success with food theming (looking at you, Butterbeer), I have high hopes that we’ll be feasting like true Vikings in no time.
So small that it'll sit almost unnoticed in any pocket or bag. Its cylindrical design offers a remarkable capacity-to-size ratio.
Live Shows and Character Meet-and-Greets
One of the most exciting elements for any fan is the chance to meet Toothless in person. Universal have posted photos showcasing the Toothless meet-and-greet, and it looks amazing and possibly the most unique charter meeting yet, so this should be a fantastic experience.
In addition to meet and greets, there will be a live stage performance, The Untrainable Dragon. I assume this will be an adapted version of the one in Universal Shanghai, featuring breathtaking puppetry, stunning special effects, and an emotional storyline that brings the world of dragons to life. Expect impressive set pieces, soaring aerial stunts, and heartwarming moments as trainers attempt to befriend an untamed dragon in an unforgettable spectacle.

The Perfect Timing: The Live-Action Movie’s Release in 2025
What makes the timing of Isle of Berk’s opening even more exciting is the release of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie in June 2025. The new film, which will reimagine Hiccup and Toothless’s story in a fresh way, is bound to bring renewed love and attention to the franchise, just in time for fans to flock to Epic Universe.
For longtime fans, this is a dream come true. We’ve seen the animated world come to life, and now we get both a big-screen adaptation and a fully immersive theme park land in the same year. If that’s not a reason to celebrate like a Viking, I don’t know what is!

Whether you grew up watching Hiccup’s journey or you have kids who adore Toothless (or both, in my case), the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe is shaping up to be the most under rated land in this new park and is sure to be a can’t miss experience. With thrilling rides, interactive attractions, themed dining, and character encounters, it’s poised to be one of the standout lands at Epic Universe.
As we inch closer to the grand opening on May 22nd 2025, you can bet I’ll be keeping an eye on every new detail, update, and sneak peek until then.
So, fellow Vikings and Dragon trainers, start sharpening your axes (or, you know, booking your tickets). Berk awaits! Let us know in the comments what are you most looking forward to in this land?
