Current and Upcoming Closures at Animal Kingdom (2025–2026)
While Animal Kingdom is full of wild adventures and jaw-dropping shows, even Disney’s most magical habitats need a bit of pruning now and then. Whether it’s for future expansions or a long-overdue retirement, a few familiar faces have officially left the park – but don’t worry, new magic is already on the horizon!
Here’s what’s gone walkabout:
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug: Closed permanently on March 17, 2025. This long-running 3D adventure under the Tree of Life is buzzing off to make way for something brand new: a Zootopia-themed attraction. Expect more Judy Hopps and fewer startled toddlers.
- TriceraTop Spin: Took its last loop-de-loop on January 13, 2025. This dino-themed spinner has made way for the Tropical Americas, a massive land expansion scheduled for 2027. Pack your explorer’s hat – we’ll be trading dino bones for jungle vines soon.
- Primeval Whirl: Officially extinct. This wild mouse coaster shut down quietly in 2021, and Disney has since paved over the prehistoric party.
With Dinoland USA now officially on the endangered list, we’ll dive into what’s coming next in that area later in this guide. But spoiler alert: think less fossils, more fiestas.
Keep in mind: closures can shift faster than a yeti on roller skates. Always check the My Disney Experience app before your trip for up-to-date attraction availability.

To get there, you’ll first hop aboard the…

Wildlife Express Train
Climb aboard this charming open-air train for a scenic 7-minute journey through the backstage areas of Animal Kingdom. You’ll pass animal housing and veterinary buildings, Disney doesn’t usually let you peek behind the curtain, but here, it’s part of the experience.
Conservation Station
This is the heart of the land, where science meets storytelling. You can peek into working veterinary treatment rooms, watch animal care in action (yep, real procedures!), and check out interactive displays on conservation efforts.
Inside you’ll find:
Invertebrates Exhibit
A bit Creepy? But Cool? This small but mighty exhibit gives you a close look at the tiny critters that keep the planet spinning, think tarantulas, leafcutter ants, and more. Great for bug lovers or anyone needing a quick escape from the Orlando heat and humidity.
The Animation Experience at Conservation Station
Unleash your inner Imagineer in this hidden gem of an activity. A Disney artist teaches you how to draw beloved animal-inspired characters like Simba, Timon, or even Scar, step by step. It’s relaxing, creative, and you get to keep your masterpiece (or at least your attempt).

What’s Coming Next at Animal Kingdom
Change is rumbling on the horizon like a distant stampede, and this time, it’s not dinosaurs. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is on the edge of a major evolution, one that promises to bring new life, stories, and adventures into the park while honouring its core theme of nature, conservation, and exploration.
The much-loved DinoLand U.S.A. is being retired, making way for something vibrant, immersive, and culturally rich. Say hello to a new land inspired by the Tropical Americas, set to open in 2027.
Confirmed and Rumoured Changes
Pueblo Esperanza – The Tropical Americas
This brand-new land will transport guests to a lush, tropical region influenced by real-world environments and cultures from Central and South America. Dense jungles, ancient ruins, vibrant village markets, and wildlife-inspired theming that brings together the magic of nature and storytelling.
From colourful flora to architectural details straight from Colombia and beyond, Pueblo Esperanza promises to be a place where guests can feel immersed in the sights, sounds, and spirit of Latin America with a Disney twist.
Indiana Jones Ride
Grab your fedora! The long-standing DINOSAUR attraction is expected to undergo a complete re-theme, transforming into an Indiana Jones adventure. While the ride system will remain the same (a rugged EMV jeep-style journey), the storyline will take a sharp turn from prehistoric peril to ancient artefacts and booby-trapped temples.
Rumour has it the reimagined ride will be inspired by Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye from Disneyland, but unique to Animal Kingdom. Possibly weaving in the lore of the Tropical Americas and adding new surprises for seasoned Indy fans.

Encanto Ride
Yes, we are talking about Casita. Disney is reportedly developing a ride based on Encanto that will bring the magical Madrigal family to life in a brand-new way. Details are still under wraps, but it’s expected to be an indoor family-friendly attraction full of colour, music, and of course magic.
Early whispers suggest guests might “step into the house” and experience its sentient wonders firsthand. And with Antonio’s love of animals and nature, this addition fits surprisingly well into Animal Kingdom’s evolving identity.
The Big Picture
These changes represent more than just new rides, they signal a new direction for Animal Kingdom. One that maintains the park’s unique focus on the natural world, but uses fresh cultural narratives and beloved IPs to deepen the experience. It’s a bold move, blending storytelling and environment in a way only Disney can.
Whether you’re an old-school fan mourning Primeval Whirl or already planning your Encanto singalong outfit, the next few years at Animal Kingdom are shaping up to be nothing short of wild.

Final Thoughts: Where adventure awaits around every corner.
